OCLD Reunion 2026 · Batch of 2023–2025

The Courtyard of Memories

73 hands. Five seasons. One courtyard.

Concept note

One courtyard, painted back by the batch that lived in it

At the reunion, 73 of you sat down at eight tables, each with a small canvas and a reference nobody else had. Every reference held the same courtyard at a different moment of the year. You painted yours without knowing where it would go.

Placed in order, the canvases became a short film: the courtyard moving through summer, autumn, monsoon, winter and spring, one painting at a time.

Some places become home without our noticing. A courtyard crossed a thousand times. Light on a familiar wall at a certain hour. Rain on paving you came to know by heart. For two years this was yours, and it stays with you after leaving.

Two years gave you every season here, more than once. Summer is fullness, the long bright days of learning, with shadows falling sharp and short. Autumn is ripeness, gold and rust and lamps coming on at dusk, the season of becoming who you came here to be. The monsoon is the season Indian poets gave to longing and return. It belongs to reunions. Winter is stillness: deep blue nights, a single moon, the last evenings together and the looking back. And spring, where the film ends, is new leaves and open skies, the promise that every ending turns into a beginning.

Colour holds memory in the same way. Blue is distance, the sky you once looked up at. Green is growth, the people you were becoming. Gold is warmth, the hours you keep returning to. Painters have long known that shadows hold colour. So does the past.

Every canvas here carries one hand and one moment. Together they hold two years, and a place that was once home.
